Patricia Arévalo
Professor at the Institute of Physics and Astronomy
Universidad de Valparaíso, Chile

I am an observational astronomer and professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Valparaiso in Chile. My research focuses mainly on active galactic nuclei, with some work on clusters of galaxies and on numerical methods to analyze astronomical data.

I did my PhD work at the Max-Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics (MPE) in Garching, Germany and obtained my degree from the Ludwig-Maximilians Universitaet in Munich. After taking two postdoc positions, one at the University of Southampton, UK and one joint between the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory in China and the Max-Planck Institute for Astrophysics in Garching, I moved back to Chile, where I am currently a full professor.
